Bhubaneswar: A two day workshop to finalize the Block Level Agricultural Contingency Plans was organized at Hotel Pal heights, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. In this workshop BLCP of two pilot states prepared after discussion with various stakeholders in the respective state were presented and modified the plans with suggestions to improve. The entire workshop was facilitated with the guidance from CRIDA scientists who are pioneered in preparing contingency plans in India.
The participants for this workshop includes KVK subject Matter Experts from Jharkhand and Odisha along with State Department officials like DDAs, District Point persons, Professors from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) who are part of Content Advisory Groups in the states. In addition to this, GIZ national coordinator CCKN-IA and CCKN-IA state experts along with Subject Matter Experts from line Departments like fisheries, Horticulture and Livestock. Also there was participants from MANAGE, Hyderabad and CRIDA scientists to finalize and steer the entire finalization process.
The workshop was formally inaugurated by lighting a ceremonial lamp on the first day with warm welcome note by Dr. B.N.Dash, Director, IMAGE, Odisha.
KVK Scientists from Ranchi District presented the Block level plans of Angara and Oramanjhi Blocks and necessary suggestions and modifications were suggested by CRIDA experts. In the noon session by KVK, Project Coordinator, Ganjam 11, presented the block level plans of Ganjam district (Chatrapur and Sanekhamundi blocks) followed by PC-KVK, Dhenkanal, who presented the Dhenkanal block level Agricultural Contingency Plans. The CRIDA experts thoroughly reviewed the plans and CRIDA experts suggested the necessary modifications.
On the second day of the workshop the key note address about the theme of the workshop was given by Professor Dr.S.Pashupalak, Vice Chancellor, OUAT about the importance of CCKN-IA and Block level contingency plans in dealing with impacts of climate vulnerabilities. Subsequently Shri. Mr. Hariballabh Mishra IAS, Director Agriculture and Food Production, Department of Agriculture and Food Production, Odisha appreciated the efforts of CCKN-IA in addressing the impacts of climate change in agriculture and the novel approach of technology transfer through ICTs related to Climate change adaptations in agriculture. Mr. Navin, GIZ, Delhi gave an overview and the novel approach of GIZ in developing the BLCP as first of its kind to address the location specific challenges at the macro-level. Dr. K.V.Rao, and Dr. Desai from CRIDA explained the entire journey of Block level contingency plans and thrown some light on its relevance to address the issue of Climate change in farming.
Then, the PC-KVK of Esat Singbhum has presented the Block level contingency plans of Patmda and Borram blocks of East Singhbhum, Jharkhand and final corrections were suggested by CRIDA scientists. After this the workshop ended with the way forward and future plans for finalization.
